I was hoping google would update my stats but it appears they aren't. everything works well except the visitors they track. Google says for my client that their site got 7 visitors in the past week.
My client gets about 40 uniques/day at this point. I can't figure out why google won't track them. The code is on every single page and has been on their for a while.
That is my big problem. Except for that I would say it is wonderful but since you can't really accurately use stats unless everyone is tracked I am at a loss.
I like the goal conversion tool things. It compares the search keywords to see which produce the most conversions and compares the search engines. I don't see where it compares keywords on 2 SE for example; Google: Bikes, MSN Bikes.
That would be nice so that you say hey Google gives me 800 hits but only 50 are conversions where MSN sends 100 hits and 20 are conversions etc. Once Google starts tracking all my hits I may be able to see if it does this. I don't think it does.
The CPC/Adwords marketing tool is supposed to be really good. You are supposed to be able to compare campaigns and see which brought you the most money and what you made on each one click wise and total. I haven't tried this feature yet as I want to get my site stats right before doing adwords to make sure those stats would be correct as well.
The unique visitors feature is okay. Pretty much the same as any other. Except I am now showing closer where I live. Awstats said I lived in another state. Except for that pretty close.
Using the - Goal Conversion Tracking tool you can see which product sold the best on different days. Good for CPC campaigns.
Content Performance - Top Content tool is pretty good. You can see what your hottest pages are and by clicking a keyword and selecting a pulldown button you can see what keywords brought a user to that page. That is useful information. It really however should be all there without having to pulldown anything. You should be able to enable or disable it.
Depth of Visit tool allows you to see how many pages visitors viewed on their visits. The problem with this is that it doesn't show which visitors. It should show that Google keyword red flags brough visitor A who went 10 pages deap and left without registering/buying etc.
Visitor Length Tool
Like this feature the visit length tool allows you to see how long visitors stay on your site. Again like above because it isn't specific on where these visitors came from it doesn't help you as much. A visitor from a search engine may stay longer than one from a random forum link or directory listing.
Navigational Analysis Tool
- Entrance Bounce Rates
This feature I have found to be very useful. You can see how many visitors who enter each of your pages bounc off right after without clicking another link. This can tell you that page isn't very content-full or doesn't have what the user wanted. After getting a lot of hits to a certain page and a good percentage bounce off you can start assuming a change is in order.
This tool does allow you to see what keyword brought them there but you do have to click each content page seperatly and check which is tedious.
- Top Exit Points
Is lacking IMHO. I think that it should show the entrance point as well and show how many pages where viewed before exiting. Also the time spent on each page would be nice. Maybe that is too much for this tool but I think it would be nice.
- Site Overlay
Ahh finaly. This is by far my favorite tool on Google Analytics. This tool allows you to view your site as you would in a browser(a small browser inside your browser) with functional links and everything. You can then see each link on the page and it will show how many visitors clicked each link, the percentage, and how many after clicking that link proceeded to one of your set goal pages. I do think that the info for each link should also contain the end page. Where the visitor ended his visit to your site.
- Initial Navigation
This tool does do kinda what I was referring to above where you trail a visitor through the pages.
It shows all the initial pages and those pages navigated to from that page unril the exit.
- All Navigation
How did visitors get to each page on my site and where did they go afterwards? This tool allows you to select a page to analyze from the left hand side of the report. The number of clicks, the conversion rates, and the average score are displayed for each Click From and Click To page. Shows pages with the highest average score as those pages most commonly visited prior to high-value conversions. This is useful
Shows number of clicks to or from the page.
Percentage of the total clicks to or from the page you selected on the left.
Percentage of time that the click from one page to the next resulted in a conversion later during the visit.
Percentage of time that the click from one page to the next page in the path resulted in an e-commerce transaction later during the visit.
Goals & Funnel Process
- Defined Funnel Navigation
This tool has been very useful to me.
At the top you select a goal. It will show visitors entrance points who came close to your goal such as maybe filling out your lengthy registration form and then said the heck with it and left. This is very good for deciding maybe there is too much going on before the user can get on with the checkout. Maybe the registration is way too big or your are asking for info they don't think you need. This type of stuff isn't answered by Google but it does help to know where the visitors came from, and where they left before completing.
- Defined Funnel Abandonment
This tool shows the goals and the days of the week. this allows you to see the percentage of visitors who left before completing the checkout process. Not as much info as the above just the percentage.
Reverse Goal Path
How do visitors actually arrive at my goals? This report tool lists the navigation paths to the selected goal and shows the number of conversions that each path represents. It shows the different navigation paths that were used to reach a goal, rather than tracking entrances to and exits from funnels you have defined. Useful for sites that are heavily cross linked, this report allows you to gain insight into something that might be required before the visitor will complete your goal. This information can be used to improve the overall navigation of the site.
--Shows the number of times a particular goal was reached.
--Percentage of times a goal was reached through a specific path.
